The 39th Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Eric M. Smith, awards a Meritorious Service Medal to Master GySgt. Carlton Dorris, a recruiter instructor with Recruiting Station Frederick, in Rockville, Md. Feb. 19, 2025. The MSM is awarded to members of the armed forces who distinguish themselves with outstanding noncombat service or achievement. As part of General Smith’s visit to the Recruiting Substation, he recognized the Marines for their successes and spoke about the future of the recruiter’s role in an evolving Marine Corps.
