30 Round M4 Magazines loaded with M855A1 Enhanced Performance Rounds lie on a piece of wood during the 2025 Connecticut Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition at the Connecticut Army National Guard Training Center East Haven Rifle Range, East Haven, Connecticut, March 20, 2025. The M885A1’s exposed hardened steel penetrator enables the round to be more effective against hard and soft targets than the previously used M855 round. Additionally, these rounds also utilize a copper slug instead of a lead slug, making them more environmentally friendly and practical as this allows soldiers to utilize more training sites that previously would have been restricted for use with live ammunition due to the lead contents of the ammunition.
