A groundbreaking ceremony signaling construction of the new Logan Elementary School begins with the first shovel of dirt spaded, April 17, here. Students take a turn to spade some dirt for the new "State of the Army" school. From the left the students are: Raymundo Biby, Jr., Miles Ward, Brisa Aguilar, Shelby Stuckey, Valery Baca, and Yannick Hirwa, fifth-graders here. They are backed by adults: second from left Patricia L. Hughes, fourth from left Fort Bliss Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Michael E. Barnes, Interim El Paso Independent School District superintendent Vernon L. Butler, Interim Elementary Division Superintendent Maria Gutierrez second from right, and Logan Principal Joseph Garren, right. Each turned a spade of dirt during the ceremony here. The groundbreaking ceremony signaling the start of construction of a new‚ State of the Army‚ will showcase the latest in technology with each student having an iPad. Logan is the first of 20 schools selected by Department of Defense for funding in the amount of more than $13 million for the scheduled construction. The school is scheduled to be open in the fall of 2014. The project will replace all of the old campus except the pre-kindergarten wing, and the new all-purpose building, which opened two years ago.
