Col. Michael Gough, Marine Aircraft Group 13 commanding officer, returns to the Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Ariz. flightline May 21 after completing a close air support sortie training mission which serves as his final flight as MAG-13 commanding officer. Gough, who took command of MAG-13 in May 2010 and oversaw the build-up and arrival of the F-35B Lightning II to MCAS Yuma, will transfer to Camp Pendleton and serve as the I Marine Expeditionary Force Chief of Staff. With over 20 years experience as an AV-8B Harrier pilot, Gough is set to turn over command of MAG-13 to Col. Chris McPhillips Thurs, May 24 aboard MCAS Yuma. With much anticipation, Gough was met at the hangar after his flight by family, friends, and Marines to offer him farewell and following seas. When asked about his final flight, Gough stated, "Well, it was awesome. I started flying with VMA-211 over 20 years ago and could have chosen any squadron to fly with but it was nostalgic to fly with them (Wake Island Avengers) again."
