Warriors from past and present stand in front of the new 30th Infantry Division and 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team monument at the National Infantry Museum Walk of Honor at Fort Benning, June 2, 2013. Soldiers from World War II and the modern day 30th ABCT took part in the ceremony that honored the unit for their service from past to present. The 30th ID was known as the “Workhorse of the Western Front,” and was most noted for breaching the famed Siegfried Line, which led to the capture of the first German city of Aachen in 1944. The 30th ABCT deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving in 2004 in the Diyala Province and again in 2009 near Baghdad and the Sunni Triangle.
