U.S. Navy Cmdr. James Christie, in front seat of aircraft, and Cmdr. John Depree, in rear seat, prepare to launch in an F/A-18F Super Hornet aircraft aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) July 4, 2013, in the Persian Gulf. During their sortie, Depree assumed command of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 154 from Christie in a midflight change of command ceremony. The Nimitz Carrier Strike Group was deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility conducting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
