Explorer William Thompson with the Yuma County Law Enforcement Explorer Academy stands at attention as he is sprayed during the Oleoresin Capsicum spray (pepper spray) demonstration that was a part of their rigorous week-long training, July 17. “The program is designed to introduce them to the stressful life of a law enforcement officer and let them know what the challenges are like to prepare themselves,” said Frank Flores a deputy with the Yuma County Sheriff’s Department and lead advisor for the YCLEEA. “The academy is similar to a full time police academy and is also very similar to military training.”
