A Sons of Iraq member in the Hawijah District receives his first book during the opening of classes, June 15, in the city of Hawijah. Iraq's ministry of education provided books and school supplies to 500 SOI members enrolled in the country's first literacy program being tested. Four schools opened its doors to the pilot program that will be the model for a future national program. The program was established to assist SOIs with their transition into the Iraq security forces. One of the requirements necessary to apply to both organizations is to be able to read and write.
