An aerial view shows the beach renourishment area near 25th and 26th streets at the Oceanfront Jan. 25, 2013, where contractors spread dredged sand after filtering and pumping it to a landing station on the beach. The work is part of the Virginia Beach Hurricane Protection and Beach Renourishment Project, which began in mid-January. The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ project included renourishment from 15th to 70th Streets, which increased the beach to a minimum elevation of 8.5 feet.
