    Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class (SW) Isabel Shay Wences, a native of Austin, Texas, enlisted in the Navy in June 2017 and attended basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois. Upon completed of basic training, Wences attended Mass Communication Specialist “A” School at the Defense Information School (DINFOS) in Fort Meade, Maryland where she finished as the distinguished honor graduate for her class. Wences reported to the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) in April 2018, and was assigned to the photo work center in Media department. In June of 2018, Wences was promoted to the position of creative director of the Statesman, the ship’s magazine, as a 3rd class petty officer, and developed a content-heavy magazine that helped keep Sailors aboard the John C. Stennis well-informed. She created a new standard for the magazine and graphics. During the John C. Stennis’ 2018 -2019 deployment, Wences was solely responsible for the designing and managing of the five-hundred-page deployment cruise book. In December of 2019, Wences was promoted to the paygrade of E5. She assumed the role of John C. Stennis’ Media Department Work Center Supervisor and Assistant Leading Petty Officer. Wences reported to Headquarters, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation in April 2021. She currently works as a visual information specialist in the graphics shop where she creates digital and 3D print products, engravings and provides studio and event photography support. In October of 2022, Wences was promoted to the paygrade of E6.
