Indiana Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman expresses her gratitude to the soldiers and airmen of Indiana's 3-19th Agricultural Development Team and explains a little about the unit’s unique mission during their Afghanistan departure ceremony held Sept. 25 at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center in central Indiana. "These 'Hoosiers,' our citizen-soldiers, or you might say our farmer-soldiers, are fighting the war on terrorism as only you can," said Skillman. "Just like the National Guard's timeless icon, the agricultural development team also stands with a rifle in one hand and a plow in the other, using agriculture as a peacemaker in Afghanistan." The unit will work with rural Afghan communities, providing them 21st century farming concepts to further economic growth and infrastructure in the region.
