U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Matt Samel, a radio operator with Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, Echo Company, attached to the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), runs behind 2nd Lieutenant Erik Sallee, 3rd platoon commander as an Amphibious Assault Vehicle follows behind to pick up Marines during Exercise Bright Star, Sept 20. The exercise is designed to enhance the interoperability and cohesiveness of coalition forces through various training scenarios, to include amphibious and combined-arms operations. The six-week exercise affords U.S. service members the opportunity to build awareness and relationships with the host nation of Egypt and fellow coalition forces.
