Marines with the Marine Corps Recruiting Command staged a tent and interacted with members of the local community at the 2013 Fan Festival for the 40th Bayou Classic on Nov. 30, 2013. The festival was held in the Champion Square in New Orleans and attracted thousands. Those who approached the Marines' tent had the opportunity to test their physical strength on a pull-up bar and speak with Marine recruiters and officer selection officers about the many benefits of military service. This was one of many events that assisted the Corps' mission of diversifying its officer ranks. For 39 years, the Bayou Classic has showcased the long-standing rivalry between the Southern University Jaguars and the Gambling State University Tigers. The United States Marine Corps has been a partner of the Bayou Classic for 13 consecutive years in celebration of the hard work, courage and commitment to excellence exhibited by its many participants.
