Marines set up markers for vehicle lanes in a simulated hostile beach environment after their amphibious landing during Exercise Steel Knight 2014 here, Dec. 10, 2013. Amphibious landing exercises refine and reinforce the Marine Corps role as an amphibious force in readiness through tough, realistic training. Steel Knight is a large-scale, combined arms, live fire exercise integrating the ground combat element from 1st Marine Division with aviation and logistical support from 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and 1st Marine Logistics Group, enabling I Marine Expeditionary Force to test and refine its command and control capabilities while honing its conventional warfighting skills.
