Members of the crowd listen to Marshall Center director Keith W. Dayton, director of the joint US-German George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies Jan. 13 during a New Year's reception at the Kongresshall in downtown Garmisch. Dayton and the mayor of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Thomas Schmid, spoke to about 800 community leaders and others from the surrounding area in a ceremony that included music from the German Gebirgsmusikkorps. The Marshall Center has been in Garmisch for more than two decades and it's the German-American partnership between has existed since 1994.
