The German Gebirgsmusikkorps plays a selection of music to about 800 people Jan. 13 during a New Year's reception at the Kongresshall in downtown Garmisch. The band played for community leaders and others from the surrounding area in a ceremony that included its music and speeches by the mayor of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, Thomas Schmid; and the Director of the joint US-German George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, retired US Army Lt. Gen. Keith W. Dayton. The Marshall Center has been in Garmisch for more than two decades and it's the German-American partnership between has existed since 1994.
