KARACHI, Pakistan: Quartermaster Third Class Travis Simmons, a native of Houston, Texas, smiles with a Pakistani police officer Oct. 27. The two worked together to provide pier security while Simmons's ship, the amphibious transport dock USS Cleveland (LPD-7), offloaded 280 tons of supplies to support the multinational earthquake relief effort in Pakistan. Cleveland's relief shipment included 37 pieces of heavy machinery donated by Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 3, food from France, and tents, cots and blankets from Egypt. The United States is participating in a multi-national assistance and support effort led by the Pakistani government to bring aid to the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck the region on Oct. 8.
