Marines pause March 5 during a patrol through as part of a culminating field event for Exercise Forest Light 14-2 at Sekiyama Training Area in Niigata prefecture, Japan. The three-day field training was the final test for the Marines and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force members participating in the exercise. The training tested the cold-weather tactics and survival skills learned throughout Forest Light. The Marines are with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, currently assigned to 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, under the unit deployment program.
