In this work from the U.S. Coast Guard Art Program 2014 Collection, ‚"Final Exam‚" ID# 201403, students with the National Motor Lifeboat School demonstrate boat-handling skills near the mouth of the Columbia River at Cape Disappointment, near Ilwaco, Wash. The NMLBS is the only school for rough weather surf rescue operations in the country and conducts training in the Columbia River Bar that provides an ideal training environment for rough weather with its deep river channel, rock jetties, coastal surf zones and waves that often exceed 20 feet high.
