In this work from the U.S. Coast Guard Art Program 2014 Collection, "Cape Disappointment‚" ID# 201424, a 47-foot Motor Life Boat plows through 14-foot waves near the mouth of the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington. This stretch of water is considered one of the most treacherous in the world. However, using the skills and knowledge acquired at the National Motor Lifeboat School located at Station Cape Disappointment in Ilwaco, Wash., the crew successfully navigates the passage and performs its missions.
