In this work from the U.S. Coast Guard Art Program 2014 Collection, "At the Helm of the Eagle‚" ID# 201426, cadets man the wheel on board the USCGC Eagle (WIX 327) that provides Coast Guard Academy cadets and officer candidates an opportunity to put into practice the navigation, engineering, and other professional theory they have previously learned in the classroom. Built in Germany in 1936 and recommissioned by the United States at the close of World War II, the Eagle is the largest tall ship flying the Stars and Stripes. The cutter's home-port is New London, Conn., on the Thames River at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. (U.S. Coast Guard Art Program 2014 Collection work by Maurice Walsh)
