Rct. Taylor White, a 21-year-old native of Deland, Fla., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title of United States Marine. White is training with Platoon 3077, India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Oct. 10, 2014. “I joined the Marine Corps to get a challenge out of life,” said White, who graduated from Deland High School in 2012. “The Marine Corps is part of my family. My uncle and brother-in-law are Marines, and when I heard about the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, it inspired me to join.” Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
