    III Marine Expeditionary Force

Marines broach their combat rubber raiding craft as part of a month-long coxswains course July 22 at White Beach Naval Facility, Okinawa, Japan. The purpose of broaching is to simulate a small boat that has capsized in turbulent waters and complete the steps necessary to set the craft in an upright position. Following completion of the course the Marines will gain an additional military occupational specialty of 0316, or Combat Rubber Raiding Craft coxswain. The Marines are with various units assigned to 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Matt Myers/Released)
