Sgt. Matthew B. Johnston examines Marines’ knots following a timed knot tying drill as part of a month-long coxswains course July 22 at White Beach Naval Facility, Okinawa, Japan. Throughout the course the Marines learn how to operate a Combat Rubber Raiding Craft, read nautical charts, and tie knots used in small boat operations. Following completion of the course the Marines will gain an additional military occupational specialty of 0316, or CRRC coxswain. Johnston is an amphibious raids instructor with Special Operations Training Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, III MEF.
