    California Counterdrug Task Force

A Soldier with the California National Guard Counterdrug Task Force watches as a Border Patrol agent exams the contents of a box truck. Soldiers of the task force alerted the agent the vehicle needed a more detailed search when the Soldiers identified possible abnormalities while inspecting the vehicle with a large scale imaging system. Counterdrug personnel operate MVISs at checkpoints throughout Southern California. A Guardsman operating the MVIS software scans numerous vehicles each day and must quickly identify signs of potentially illegal or dangerous goods. The machines are highly mobile—service members can react to a call to change locations and be on the road within 15 minutes. National Guard personnel complete a two week, hands on training course on the proper operation and capabilities of the MVIS system. (U.S. Army National Guard Photo/ Sgt. 1st Class Benjamin M.
