Machinery Repairman 1st Class Jesse West, from Port Orchard, Wash., a member of the damage control training team aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Sterett (DDG 104), simulates a class bravo fire during an air crew firefighting exercise. Sterett is underway as part of the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group. Carl Vinson and its embarked air wing, Carrier Air Wing 17, are on deployment in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations supporting Valiant Shield. Valiant Shield is a U.S.-only biennial exercise in which participation will focus on the integration of joint training among U.S. forces.
