A simulated improvised explosive device lays partially buried in a road on the training ranges surrounding Yuma, Ariz., during an advanced convoy exercise, operated by the motor transport platoon for 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, based out of Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay, Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014. The IED was not present during the Marines’ initial rehearsal of the exercise, and was added by the staff to surprise the motor transport specialists and add depth to the evolution of the exercise.
