After his platoon has split into two groups for an attack on a simulated enemy position, Pfc. Tyler E. Ehrhart from 2nd Platoon, Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion. 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, briefly signals to one of his Soldiers that they are near the objective during Exercise Combined Resolve III, Grafenwoehr, Germany, Nov. 17, 2014. During the attack, the platoon splits into two elements: an assault element and a support-by-fire element. Assault elements physically advance to clear the objective and support-by-fire elements suppress enemy troops from afar while the assault element advances. (Photograph by Army Sgt. William A.
