Sgt. Timothy D. Brown supervises as Cpl. Avanti J. Smothers shoots a Taser Dec. 16 on Camp Hansen. Tasers are one of the nonlethal weapons used for crowd control. The Taser is designed to immobilize the body without causing damage. Smothers, from Ocala, Florida, is assigned to Fox Battery, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, currently attached to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.
