Sally Yoo, 309th Software Maintenance Group computer scientist, Lay Weston, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center electrical engineer and 2nd Lt. Chris Hopkins, Air Force Sustainment Center Engineering Directorate, executive officer, all members of the Hill Air Force Base, Utah, 2015 Air Force Research Laboratory team, act as the base defense operations center during their active shooter scenarios, June 15-19, at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, Butlerville, Ind. Their system called “Echo” used internet protocol phones, allowing users to push a distress button on the phone which sends a silent call to 911 allowing dispatchers to listen in to the room via the phone speaker. However, it doesn't allow them to talk back which means they are able to know what’s going on but not make anyone else in the room aware the speaker is on. (U.S. Air Force photo by Wesley Farnsworth)
