Sgt. Daniel A. Laks, an air traffic controller from Marine Air Control Group 28, Marine Aircraft Group 40, Marine Expeditionary Brigade-Afghanistan, clears two CH-53E Super Stallions to land at Camp Dwyer, Helmand province, Afghanistan, Sept. 8. The controllers play a vital role here by providing guidance to incoming and outgoing aircraft. They are responsible for coordinating hundreds of different calls every day, from clearing Russian cargo helicopter pilots to land to ensuring Marines from Marine Wing Support Squadron 371 are ready to refuel aircraft.
