150825-N-FO981-212 SAN DIEGO (Aug. 25, 2015) – Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class Esequiel Parra, assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), assists Information Specialist 2nd Class Aaron Oneil in loading his weapon in preparation for a live fire course at Naval Air Station North Island. America is currently moored at Naval Base San Diego and receiving upgrades while undergoing a post-shakedown availability (PSA). PSA is a period in which the ship’s crew and contractors make improvements to the ship’s design. Every new ship conducts a PSA that is designed to harness results of a thorough test and evaluation period and pave the way to operational employment.
