The Mk124 flare is used to identify the location of personnel during rescue and recovery missions, both at night and during the day. This hand-held device is carried by personnel in life vests and flight suit pockets. Here, 167th aircrew members practice igniting the day end of the flare. These skills are demonstrated and practiced during their survival, evasion, resistance and escape (SERE) training refresher course.
