New recruits are welcomed to the depot by Sgt. Lewis A. Velasquez, drill instructor, Receiving Company, Support Battalion, during receiving at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Dec. 7. Once the recruits step off the bus, they immediately begin the transformation from civilian to Marine. Today, all males recruited from west of the Mississippi are trained at MCRD San Diego. The depot is responsible for training more than 16,000 recruits annually. Echo Company is scheduled to graduate from recruit training on March 4.
