Sergeant Edwin A. Gonzales, drill instructor, Receiving Company, Support Battalion, instructs a new recruit to move faster during receiving at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Dec. 7. Recruits are required to follow all instructions from drill instructors throughout the course of training. In the week following receiving, they will conduct an initial strength test, undergo medical screenings and immunizations and learn the basic rules of recruit training. Today, all males recruited from west of the Mississippi are trained at MCRD San Diego. The depot is responsible for training more than 16,000 recruits annually. Echo Company is scheduled to graduate March 4.
