U.S. Army Spc. Landon Smith, a North Carolina National Guard Soldier from 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 252nd Armor Regiment, takes a written test during the Multinational Battle Group-East Soldier of the Month competition, Dec. 4, 2015, at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo. Smith, who is a resident of Fayetteville, N.C., was named Soldier of the Month. The two-day competition included an evaluation on each competitor’s knowledge of the M16 rifle and M9 pistol, a physical fitness test, 4-mile ruck march, and tests on casualty evaluation and weapons qualification. U.S. Soldiers and multinational service members serving on NATO’s peace support mission in Kosovo have had the opportunity to test their military skills in various competitions and races throughout their deployment.
