FORT BLISS, TEXAS – An Air Force Pre-Ranger candidate holds out a pair of civilian pants for Ranger Instructor, Air Force Maj. Stephen Kaminski to inspect during a “shakedown” of the candidate’s personal items during the first day of the Air Force Security Forces Center Ranger Assessment Course 16-1. Kaminski, and his fellow Ranger Instructors were checking the candidates to make sure they had brought their required items, and to make sure they didn’t have any contraband items such as GPS watches and phones. The 15-day course is a requirement for all Airmen wishing to attend the U.S. Army Ranger School at Fort Benning, Georgia. The Air Force sends approximately 10 Airmen a year to the course. Since 1953, 253 Air Force personnel have graduated from Ranger School.
