PACIFIC OCEAN (October 19, 2016) – AV-8B Harriers, assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 163 (Reinforced), land on the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). Makin Island, the flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, is deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of the Navy’s maritime strategy in the U.S. 3rd Fleet area of responsibility.
