U.S. Marine Sgt. Michael Lipsey assists during a skit designed to educate Marines of the 1st Marine Logistics Group on sexual assault and ways to prevent it at Camp Pendleton, Calif., Oct. 27, 2016. Lipsey is an electro-optical ordnance repairer with 1st Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 15, 1st MLG. The event featured a special guest presentation by Mike Domitrz, the founder of the Date Safe Project, who spoke to the Marines and Sailors about the importance of consent and respect prior to intimacy. The event reminded non-commissioned officers and petty officers from the 1st MLG about the dangers of fraternization and ways to prevent it. The Date Safe Project is sexual assault awareness organization started in 2003, whose primary goal is to leave a positive impact on issues surrounding sexual assault and healthy intimacy. The Date Safe Project provides materials and advocacy programs for middle schools, high schools, universities, community organizations as well as the United States Military. “Talk first, ask first and respect the answer,” said Domitrz during this event.
