POHAKULOA TRAINING AREA, Hawaii – Marines with Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, alongside Marines with Combat Logistics Battalion 3, fire M240B medium machine guns at Range 11 aboard Pohakuloa Training Area, Hawaii, as part of Lava Viper, a staple in the regiment’s pre-deployment training, on Oct. 20, 2016. Service members taking part in the exercise conducted machine gun drills in order to help new Marines better understand and practice the weapon conditions, firing and reloading of various weaponry. Lava Viper provides the Hawaii-based Marines with an opportunity to conduct various movements, live-fire and tactical training, integrating combined arms exercises, before departing for Integrated Training Exercise aboard Marine Air-Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California, where the battalion will train and be evaluated as a whole.
