    Marines from the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment Division disembark from two CH-53 Chinook helicopters just inside the beach area of Bellows AFB in order to secure the area, while awaiting an amphibious landing by Marines from the 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Division, July 11, in support of the Rim of the Pacific Exercise. RIMPAC is a biennial exercise which is intended to increase the tactical proficiency of participating units in a wide array of maritime operations by enhancing military-to-military relations and interoperability. There are 14 nations, 32 ships, five submarines, more than 170 aircraft and 20,000 personnel participating in RIMPAC which is the largest maritime exercise in the world.
