U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Michael Ingold, from Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, monitors part of his team's counter-unmanned aerial system created for the 2016 Air Force Research Laboratory Commanders Challenge at the Nevada National Security Site, Las Vegas, NV., Dec. 12, Teams were given six months to develop a complete system to aid in base defense. Lackland's system is a multi-layered defeat system using radar, WiFi hacking, GPS spoofing and cameras to identify and track unmanned aerial systems, and a custom remote-controlled immobilization vehicle for capturing downed drones.
