NAVAL BASE CORONADO, San Diego (June 28, 2016) U.S. Marines with the Maritime Raid Force (MRF), 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), approach a simulated enemy vessel during a visit, board, search, and seizure (VBSS) mission off the coast of San Diego, Calif., June 28. Although the MRF is capable of operating in land-based environments, its main role is to conduct maritime interception operations, which include raids on gas and oil platforms; and enemy-controlled vessels.
