PACIFIC OCEAN (April 6, 2017) Machinist's Mate 3rd Class Joseph Useo, from Greenville, N.Y., and Machinist's Mate 3rd Class Tyler Thompson, from Jackson, Mich., conduct maintenance on a compress melting unit aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Howard (DDG 83). Howard is currently underway conducting a composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) with the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group in preparation for an upcoming deployment. COMPTUEX tests the mission readiness of the strike group’s assets through simulated real-world scenarios and their ability to perform as an integrated unit.
