This gourd came from a lava tube site in the IPBC area. USAG-PTA's Cultural Resources team conducts archaeological surveys of sites on the Island of Hawaii.

The second largest training area of its kind in the Pacific Command, Pohakuloa Training Area spans 133,000 acres and provides a complete training environment that incorporates all of the rigors of an actual deployment to an austere theater of operations.

The U.S. Army spends millions of dollars annually to meet its stewardship obligations here on the Island of Hawaii, which include preservation of natural and cultural resources.
