Capt. Jenks, Chief Staff Officer Navy Region Hawaii, and his wife Catherine attend the Hula Kahiko Competition at the 54th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival Friday night. Capt. Jenks is the Chief Staff Officer of Navy Region Hawaii, and participated in the Merrie Monarch Festival Parade on Saturday April 22. The Navy recognizes that the Merrie Monarch Festival honors the legacy left by King David Kalākaua, who inspired the perpetuation of Hawaiian traditions, native language and arts. King Kalākaua negotiated a treaty with the United States that led to the Navy’s presence at Pearl Harbor. (Photo by Ens. Britney Duesler)
