    Commander Navy Region Hawaii

Capt. Jenks, Chief Staff Officer Navy Region Hawaii, and his wife Catherine take their places in preparation for the start of the Merrie
Monarch Festival Parade on Saturday April 22. With them is Doug Arnott, member of the Hilo Navy League Council, whose privately owned lodge provided transportation for Jenks and the Pacific Fleet Band. The Navy recognizes that the Merrie Monarch Festival honors the legacy left by King David Kalākaua, who inspired the perpetuation of Hawaiian traditions, native language and arts. King Kalākaua negotiated a treaty with the United States that led to the Navy’s presence at Pearl Harbor. (Photo by Ens. Britney Duesler)
