Capt. Jenks, Chief Staff Officer Navy Region Hawaii, and his wife Catherine greet the reviewing stand at the Merrie Monarch Festival
Parade in downtown Hilo on Saturday April 22. Capt. Jenks, along with the Pacific Fleet Band, participated in the parade. The Navy recognizes that the Merrie Monarch Festival honors the legacy left by King David Kalākaua, who inspired the perpetuation of Hawaiian traditions, native language and arts. King Kalākaua negotiated a treaty with the United States that led to the Navy’s presence at Pearl Harbor. (Photo by Ens. Britney Duesler)
