NORFOLK, Va. (June 24, 2017) -- Lt. Jamal Scarlett, from Murrieta, California, a chaplain aboard the future USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), signs the baptism certificate for the first baptism aboard Ford. The custom of baptizing infants aboard ships dates back to the British Royal Navy in which the infant is baptized under or inside the ship's bell.
