NORFOLK, Va. (June 24, 2017) -- Lt. Jamal Scarlett, from Murrieta, California, a chaplain aboard the future USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), baptizes the son of Lt. John "Jack" Curran, from Silver Spring, Maryland, a Ford deck division officer, and Lt. Emily Curran, from San Antonio, Texas, a former Ford nuclear surface warfare officer. The custom of baptizing infants aboard ships dates back to the British Royal Navy in which the infant is baptized under or inside the ship's bell.
